The Original Swedish Aquavit

A Swedish riff on the classic cocktail, Fidel Castro.

O.P. - The Original Swedish Aquavit

With bold but balanced flavors, O.P. Anderson - born in 1891 - is a Swedish icon and the most popular aquavit in Sweden. All through the years, the recipe has stayed the same. But aspirations of quality and craftsmanship in the manufacturing have kept rising.

Aquavit – The most Swedish drink of them all

Aquavit is a strong spirit originating in the Nordic countries, at least 37.5% in the alcohol strength department, with a dominant taste of caraway, dill, or both.

Whether you’ve heard of it, tasted it or had twelve shots of it last night, it is – in our humble opinion – an undervalued classic.

O.P. Anderson Perfect Serve

Pairing beer with aquavit will perfectly lift the flavors of both.

Aquavit in cocktails?

Aquavit is, actually, a good base for cocktails. It has a generous natural base boasting an incredible spice balance. In practice, it has that same something that gin does - it brings more spiciness to the drink.

As the dominant tastes are caraway and dill, the spiciness is however different so one needs to be careful with other herbs like mint that overrides the taste of the aquavit.

Crafted in Sweden

In the northern Swedish town of Sundsvall, our brand new distillery houses state-of-the-art equipment living side-by-side with shining copper stills and ancient oak barrels.

The Judges comments:

"Light, elegant and well focused, with aniseed and peppery notes on the nose, followed by golden syrup, demerara sugar and hay.

It is spicy, with a great balance and a nice refreshing light body that has enough richness and layers to make for a truly complex sipping spirit. Focused and balanced throughout".
